# GDPR Compliance

Explains what to check so your store's use of Recart stays compliant with GDPR data privacy rules.

Here's what you need to know to make sure that your store is GDPR-compliant when using Recart.

If you are reading this, you probably care about your customers' privacy and would like to make sure that your store is fully compliant with Recart. That's awesome, we are also committed to respect your customers' privacy and personal data. Here's a list of the things that you should check to make sure that your store is prepared for GDPR.

Recart automatically captures email addresses from your newsletter subscription forms and email subscription popups. To comply with GDPR requirements, you need to make sure that your visitors are well-informed about what kind of messages they will receive when they subscribe to your email list. Please verify that your newsletter subscription forms ask for permission to send personalized marketing emails.

### Messenger Subscription

Facebook Messenger is a great marketing channel due to the extremely high engagement rate and the single click subscription enabled by the Discount Widget as well as our Wheelio and Optimonk Integrations.

Since Facebook revoked the usage of the pre-checked checkboxes, using their tools is a 100% GDPR compliant, as your visitors can only subscribe to your Messenger list willingly.

### Deleting Customer Data

According to the GDPR regulation, all customers have the right to request that all data collected about them be deleted. This personal data includes transaction history, contact information, and more. Starting from May 25, Shopify will allow you to request that a specific Customer's data be deleted from Shopify and your installed apps. If you request a customer data deletion on your Shopify Dashboard, Recart will automatically carry out all necessary deletions as required by GDPR. If you have special data deletion requests or have any questions on deleting customer data, please contact our team using the in-app chat, we will be happy to help you out.

### How to comply with GDPR requirements in practise?

You'll need to create a Privacy Policy in order to let your customers know:

* what personal information you collect
* how you use that information
* and with whom you share that information

what personal information you collect

how you use that information

and with whom you share that information

When you are using Recart, you are sharing your customers' personal information with us. Therefore we recommend you to add Recart to the list of third party data processors in order to fully comply with GDPR requirements.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://help.recart.com/compliance-protections/required-compliance/gdpr-compliance.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
