## Introducing the A/B Test Wizard

![A/B test wizard](https://791907572-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2Fg9BL9jmM4rBr3YI5Ck5J%2Fuploads%2FlpFy7ZxNgPMdC4EHtWFr%2Fimg-ab-test-wizard-1.png?alt=media)

### One place to build every popup A/B test

Popup A/B tests are no longer buried inside one popup's settings. There is now a dedicated wizard behind the **Create new** button on the Popup A/B tests page, where you compose the whole test at once: name it, add your variants, set the split, pick a win condition, and schedule it.

### What's new

* **Pick your variants in one modal.** Add any active, inactive, or draft popup, plus a holdout. The first one you add becomes the Control, and you can promote any variant to Control later.
* **Traffic split.** Choose **Auto** for an even split, or **Manual** per-variant percentages that must add up to 100%.
* **One primary metric per test.** Pick the metric that decides the winner (opt-in rate, order conversion rate, revenue per visitor, AOV, total revenue, or total orders). It is flagged as Primary on the results page, and everything else is still tracked.
* **Draft popups can join a test** and are activated automatically when it starts.
* **Holdout is now a variant** you select in the wizard, instead of a manual workaround.
* **Test-level targeting.** Set one Pages and Geotargeting config for all variants for the length of the test. When the test ends, each popup falls back to its own targeting automatically.
* **Notes and tags.** Tag every test (Copy, CTA, Layout, Discount, BFCM, and more) so six months from now you can pull up every CTA test from BFCM and read the lift before designing the next one.

### Good to know

* Save a test as a draft while a variant is still coming together. Draft and Canceled now appear as statuses on the list page.
* The third-party A/B testing integration stays exactly where it is on the popup settings page.
* Up to 8 popups per test.
* This is rolling out to everyone. A small number of sites with a test already running or scheduled are migrated as those tests finish.

## Introducing the Modular Popup Editor

![Modular popup editor](https://791907572-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2Fg9BL9jmM4rBr3YI5Ck5J%2Fuploads%2FLporRZlNgXvqLeIBWsAZ%2Fimg-modular-popup-editor-1.png?alt=media)

### Build your popup's structure, not just its content

The popup editor is no longer a fixed template. The right panel now shows each step as a **tree of elements** you can shape yourself, so layouts that used to need a custom request to our team are something you can build directly.

### What's new

* **Containers.** Elements sit inside containers, shown as a nested tree. Click any container to open its own settings: gap, direction, align, justify, width, height, margin, padding, and custom CSS.
* **Drag to reorder.** Drag any element or container to a new spot in the tree, including into or out of other containers. A placeholder shows where it will land. Form items like name and birthday are now regular elements you can move anywhere.
* **Add and remove elements.** A **+ Add** row at the bottom of the tree lets you drop in Text, Image, or Container. A trash icon on hover removes what you no longer need.

### Good to know

* New empty elements show a placeholder in the editor and never render on the live popup. A popup with an empty element can be saved as a draft, but not activated until you fill it in.
* The pieces that keep an opt-in working, like the email and phone inputs, legal text, and the Contact Card, can't be removed, so your submission flow can never break.
* New popups now start clean, without the empty default image and text templates used to include. Add them when you need them.
  {% endupdate %}

## Self-Serve Onboarding: Start Using Recart Without a Call

![Self-serve onboarding: install, build a popup, start collecting opt-ins](https://791907572-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2Fg9BL9jmM4rBr3YI5Ck5J%2Fuploads%2FStccAMP6lTtXg7u5mCAH%2Fimg-self-serve-onboarding-1.png?alt=media)

Getting started with Recart is now completely self-serve. New stores can install Recart and get up and running on their own, with no onboarding call required. Set up your account, verify your SMS sending number, and add your payment method, all inside Recart, whenever you are ready.

### What's new

* Touchless onboarding for new installs: create your account and start using Recart without talking to our team first.
* Self-serve phone number (TFN) verification, handled right in the dashboard.
* Payment management moved into Recart, add or update your payment method without leaving the app. Payments are processed securely by Stripe, and Recart never stores your card details.

![The self-serve onboarding flow: compliance links, verified phone number, and billing](https://791907572-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2Fg9BL9jmM4rBr3YI5Ck5J%2Fuploads%2F4yEEsV44FPSda0z41xUZ%2Fimg-self-serve-onboarding-2.png?alt=media)

The self-serve setup flow: add your legal links, submit for a free verified number, and set up billing, all on your own.

### Good to know

* This affects new installs only. Existing accounts are unchanged.
* Prefer a guided setup? White-glove onboarding is still available for merchants who want it.
  {% endupdate %}

## Introducing Email Typo Correction

![A popup catching mistyped email domains and suggesting the correct address inline](https://791907572-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2Fg9BL9jmM4rBr3YI5Ck5J%2Fuploads%2FRbTp5iPq0RRaFSEOp8fC%2Fimg-email-typo-correction-1.gif?alt=media)

### What's new

When a subscriber mistypes a common email domain in one of your popups, the form now spots it and suggests the corrected address inline, for example "Use <jane@gmail.com>". One tap fixes it, before the wrong address is ever added to your list.

The first version covers the four highest-volume providers, gmail.com, icloud.com, outlook.com, and aol.com, which together account for roughly 90% of the bounces caused by a domain typo. Anything it does not recognize submits exactly as before, so nothing legitimate gets blocked.

![Live popup catching a mistyped domain and suggesting the corrected email address at opt-in](https://791907572-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2Fg9BL9jmM4rBr3YI5Ck5J%2Fuploads%2FWsH2wjwyWiYePyV3bvrh%2Fimg-email-typo-correction-2.gif?alt=media)

The suggestion in action: a mistyped domain is caught and corrected at opt-in.

### Impact

Fewer hard bounces from the very first send, which protects your sender reputation and keeps your list cleaner. Early data points to about a 1.4% improvement in bounce rate.

It is live across your popups, with nothing to set up.
{% endupdate %}

{% update date="2026-08-24" tags="New Feature" %}

## Popup Cooldown and Frequency Limit

![Popup cooldown and cross-popup frequency limit controls](https://791907572-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2Fg9BL9jmM4rBr3YI5Ck5J%2Fuploads%2FTMmsElLWDS4FKQcDVPhW%2Fimg-popup-cooldown-frequency-limit-1.png?alt=media)

Until now, how long a closed popup stayed away was decided by the visitor's browser cookie, roughly 7 days, invisible, and impossible to change. Now it is a setting you control, right in the Trigger section.

### What's new

* **Popup cooldown.** A new field in the Trigger row sets how long to wait before showing a closed popup again, across sessions, whether or not the visitor subscribed. It is pre-filled at 7 days and editable from 1 to 30.
* **Frequency limit across popups.** A new rule holds a popup back based on your other popups: do not show this popup if any popup has been displayed in the last hour. Set the window from 1 minute to 30 days. It is off by default, so nothing changes until you add it.
* **A cleaner Trigger section.** Rules now sit as removable blocks in a redesigned layout. Re-engage keeps the same four settings, it just reads more clearly.

![The redesigned Trigger section with a visible popup cooldown field and a limit popup frequency rule](https://791907572-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2Fg9BL9jmM4rBr3YI5Ck5J%2Fuploads%2FdBVJyFg6edbZ8AJSIdgt%2Fimg-popup-cooldown-frequency-limit-2.png?alt=media)

The redesigned Trigger section: a visible popup cooldown, plus a frequency limit that holds a popup back based on your other popups.

### Why it matters

* Stop stacking offers on the same shopper, so an exit-intent popup no longer fires right after your welcome popup.
* Tune re-display to your store, instead of leaving it to a cookie you could never see.

Available on every trigger type except externally triggered popups.
{% endupdate %}

{% update date="2026-07-22" tags="New Feature" %}

## Privy Integration

![The Privy integration connected in Recart, showing the Active toggle and API token settings](https://791907572-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2Fg9BL9jmM4rBr3YI5Ck5J%2Fuploads%2FN6DRkoVfvSFiMiTiSFRS%2Fimg-privy-integration-1.png?alt=media)

The Privy integration in Recart: paste your API token to connect, and opt-ins sync automatically.

Recart now connects natively to Privy. The email opt-ins you collect through your Recart opt-in tools sync automatically into your Privy account, ready for welcome flows and campaigns.

### What's new

* Connect Privy to Recart with a Privy API token, added on the Privy settings page in your dashboard.
* Every popup opt-in appears in Privy as a subscribed contact, with consent carried over correctly.
* Synced contacts include the source popup, opt-in timestamps, the discount code the shopper was shown, and popup form fields, following the same conventions as our Klaviyo integration.
* Privy has no lists, so Recart contacts are grouped using a recart tag and source details you can segment on.

### Why it matters

* Keep your email platform fed with Recart-captured subscribers after moving to Privy, with no manual CSV exports.
* See exactly which contacts came from Recart, from which popup, and when.
  {% endupdate %}

{% update date="2026-07-07" tags="Improvement" %}

## A/B Test Funnel Analytics

![A/B Test Funnel Analytics](https://791907572-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2Fg9BL9jmM4rBr3YI5Ck5J%2Fuploads%2FpFtGxUF1hW33MfJRdrOO%2Fimg-ab-test-funnel-analytics-1.png?alt=media)

Your A/B test results page used to give you the headline numbers. Now it shows the whole story: where visitors drop off, where the revenue comes from, and how they interact with each variant, without exporting a thing.

### What's new

The A/B test details page now has four tabs:

* **Total.** The headline opt-in and revenue metrics, as before.
* **Opt-in funnel.** Exactly where people drop off on the way to opting in, per variant.
* **Revenue funnel.** Revenue split by opt-in segment: saw the popup only, opted into email, or opted into email and SMS.
* **Interaction breakdown.** Counts for every popup interaction, grouped by visibility, teaser, email, SMS, verification, and success, per variant.

### Why it matters

* Understand why a variant won, not just that it won.
* Charts stay readable with up to four variants, and the numbers match your export and dashboard.

One change to note: run the revenue export from the A/B test details page from now on. It has moved out of the Reports menu.
{% endupdate %}

{% update date="2026-06-30" tags="Improvement" %}

## Segment Maintenance and Dormancy

![Segment Maintenance and Dormancy](https://791907572-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2Fg9BL9jmM4rBr3YI5Ck5J%2Fuploads%2F9qPDFVbdsekdxD3lXAwE%2Fimg-segment-maintenance-dormancy-1.png?alt=media)

Segments you use regularly now stay active and update automatically, while the ones you built for a one-off campaign months ago and never opened again are automatically set aside. This keeps your Segments and Lists page focused on what you are actually using.

### What's new

* Frequently used segments stay active and refresh on their own.
* Segments left idle for a while are automatically categorized as dormant.
* Nothing is ever lost: a dormant segment keeps all of its conditions, and only its member list is set aside.
* Open a dormant segment and hit Recalculate to rebuild it with your latest subscribers in seconds.

### Why it matters

* Your active segments, campaigns, and flows are never touched, only unused segments rest.
* Check any segment's status at a glance, filter to find dormant ones, and wake any of them whenever you like.
  {% endupdate %}

{% update date="2026-06-03" tags="Improvement" %}

## Instant Segment Creation

![Instant Segment Creation](https://791907572-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2Fg9BL9jmM4rBr3YI5Ck5J%2Fuploads%2Fr936Zy8dly3xO1B3NGrX%2Fimg-instant-segment-creation-1.png?alt=media)

We rebuilt how segments are created from the ground up. When you save a new segment, Recart now puts it together almost immediately, usually in under a minute even for large lists. No more watching a "calculating" spinner just to see who made the cut.

### What's new

* Segments build in seconds thanks to a rebuilt segmentation engine.
* A live count shows how many subscribers match as you add, edit, or remove conditions.
* Tighten a filter and the number updates, loosen it and your reach grows, so you know your audience size before you save.

### Why it matters

* Launch targeted campaigns faster, without waiting on segment calculation.
* Shape the exact audience you want with no guesswork.
  {% endupdate %}

{% update date="2026-06-03" tags="New Feature" %}

## Markdown Formatting in Popups

![Markdown Formatting in Popups](https://791907572-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2Fg9BL9jmM4rBr3YI5Ck5J%2Fuploads%2FSf2w03FmOkJvWMGIVs4z%2Fimg-markdown-formatting-popups-1.png?alt=media)

You can now style the text in your popups the way you would anywhere else: bold for emphasis, italics for tone, and links where you need them. It all works with simple Markdown, no code and no developer.

### What's new

* Add bold, italics, links, and more to your text with Markdown.
* The formatting options sit right above the text field, marked with an info icon.
* Works across popups, embedded forms, and landing pages.

### Good to know

* Formatting applies to text elements. Buttons and form labels stay as they are.
  {% endupdate %}

{% update date="2026-05-27" tags="New Feature" %}

## Opt-in Level Integration Destinations

![Opt-in Level Integration Destinations](https://791907572-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2Fg9BL9jmM4rBr3YI5Ck5J%2Fuploads%2FG7g3exv70ScB5feBlicD%2Fimg-opt-in-level-integration-1.png?alt=media)

You can now control exactly where each popup sends its subscribers in your connected platforms. Set a default SMS and email destination per integration, then override it at the popup level, independently for each channel.

### What's new

* Configure a default SMS and email destination per integration on the integration page.
* Override that destination on a per-popup basis, separately for SMS and email.
* Works across capable integrations such as Klaviyo and Attentive, using lists or opt-in keywords depending on the platform.
* Duplicated popups inherit the original popup's integration settings.

### Why it matters

* Send VIP, campaign, and site-wide popup subscribers into separate lists without manual backend workarounds.
* Cleaner segmentation in your connected platform means more precise targeting downstream.
  {% endupdate %}

{% update date="2026-05-13" tags="Improvement" %}

## Timezone Accuracy

![Timezone Accuracy](https://791907572-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2Fg9BL9jmM4rBr3YI5Ck5J%2Fuploads%2Fbvdp3wjLpQ4RUUdrB8Jl%2Fimg-timezone-accuracy-1.png?alt=media)

Say goodbye to subscribers stuck in the wrong timezone. Previously a subscriber's timezone was often set once, sometimes from a VPN, a vacation, or a phone dial code, and never corrected. Recart now uses a clear priority system that updates automatically as better signals come in.

### What's new

* A priority-based system selects the timezone from the most reliable signal available, including order address, real-time session, integration data, import, and dial code, with higher-priority signals winning.
* Timezones update automatically as new, reliable signals arrive.
* Safeguards keep VPN and travel misfires out of the picture, for example requiring two agreeing signals before switching a US subscriber, and capping session updates to once per day.
* Every change is logged in plain language in the subscriber's history.

### Why it matters

* Messages land at the right local time, even as subscribers move around.
* Better quiet hours enforcement adds an extra layer of TCPA protection.
  {% endupdate %}

{% update date="2026-05-06" tags="New Feature" %}

## Gamified Popups

![Real Recart gamified popups: mystery box, Plinko, scratch card, and slot machine](https://791907572-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2Fg9BL9jmM4rBr3YI5Ck5J%2Fuploads%2Fo2oZCIfRSGezPZJoYP6h%2Fimg-gamified-popups-1.png?alt=media)

Gamified popups turn a standard opt-in into an interactive moment. Instead of a plain "enter your email for a discount" form, shoppers play a quick game and land on a prize. Making the reward feel earned lifts engagement and opt-in rates.

### What's new

* Four gamified popup formats: mystery box, Plinko, scratch card, and slot machine.
* The game maps your offer onto prize tiers, with the winning reward set in advance.
* Every board is branded to your store, using your logo, colors, and fonts.

![Building a spin-the-wheel popup in the Recart editor with AI-assisted slice setup](https://791907572-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2Fg9BL9jmM4rBr3YI5Ck5J%2Fuploads%2Ffg4sCbKKWL4sIlhjNwDt%2Fimg-gamified-popups-2.png?alt=media)

Building a spin-the-wheel popup in the Recart editor, with AI-assisted slice setup.

### Why it matters

* A higher-engagement opt-in moment for promotions, launches, and seasonal campaigns.
* The interactive reward experience helps convert more visitors into subscribers.
  {% endupdate %}

## Back in Stock Automated Flow

![Back in Stock Automated Flow](https://791907572-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2Fg9BL9jmM4rBr3YI5Ck5J%2Fuploads%2FaIv3I0mOoNp4eATaRRwg%2Fimg-back-in-stock-flow-1.png?alt=media)

Back in Stock is a new automated flow type that helps you recover lost demand from sold-out products. It shows an SMS opt-in popup on out-of-stock product pages on your Shopify store and automatically sends a text when the item is restocked. The whole flow runs end to end with no manual work once it is set up.

### What's new

* A dedicated Back in Stock flow that monitors Shopify inventory and sends restock notifications automatically.
* An out-of-stock popup lets shoppers opt in at the variant level, so each size or color is tracked separately.
* The flow ships with a pre-written welcome message and restock notification, so it works out of the box, and you can edit the copy like any other flow.
* Restock messages fire on the move from zero to in stock, and respect your quiet hours.

### Why it matters

* Turn stockouts into recovered sales instead of lost visitors.
* Shoppers who wanted a sold-out item come back automatically the moment it returns.
  {% endupdate %}

{% update date="2026-04-24" tags="Compliance" %}

## Introducing AI-Powered Unsubscribe Intent Detection

![AI-Powered Unsubscribe Intent Detection](https://791907572-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2Fg9BL9jmM4rBr3YI5Ck5J%2Fuploads%2F3MftTVjypgYXn4vAfi9C%2Fimg-ai-unsubscribe-intent-detection-1.png?alt=media)

### Subscribers who say "stop texting me" are now automatically unsubscribed

SMS compliance is evolving, and Recart is going beyond STOP and UNSUBSCRIBE keywords. We now use AI to detect unsubscribe intent in free-text replies, so messages like "please stop texting me" or "I don't want these anymore" are processed automatically, just like a standard STOP.

The system also catches stop-related emojis and common misspellings, while correctly ignoring short conversational replies ("Yes", "Ok", "Thanks"), 2FA codes, and automated carrier responses.

### What you will see in your account

* **AI opt-out counts** on your Subscribers chart
* **Detection method and message** displayed on each subscriber profile
* **A toggle** to turn the feature on or off in Settings, SMS

Regulators increasingly expect brands to honor opt-out requests regardless of how they are worded. This feature ensures subscribers who express intent to opt out are always unsubscribed, reducing your compliance exposure from missed or ambiguous requests. No setup is required, it is live for all accounts automatically.
{% endupdate %}

{% update date="2026-04-24" tags="New Feature" %}

## Introducing Popup Re-engage

### Smarter popup re-display, built for visitors who are still browsing

**Smart Trigger** has been renamed **Re-engage** and rebuilt with stronger intent signals.

The old version fired based on time alone. Re-engage is different: it only fires when a visitor is genuinely still browsing. They need to navigate to a new page first, and the timer counts active seconds on that new page, a much stronger signal of real intent.

### What's new

* Navigation to a new page is now required before Re-engage can fire
* The timer counts active time on the new page (resets on every page load)
* New popups have Re-engage **enabled by default** (1 attempt, 40s delayed display)
* Existing popups with Smart Trigger off stay off, no change

### Where to make changes

Re-engage settings live in the **Popup editor, under Trigger settings**. You can configure max attempts, required navigations, delayed display, and scroll depth independently.

![Popup Re-engage settings](https://791907572-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2Fg9BL9jmM4rBr3YI5Ck5J%2Fuploads%2F4Vf4XLattxVvBTeAS4zi%2Fimg-popup-re-engage-1.png?alt=media)

If you turned Smart Trigger off before, it is worth turning Re-engage back on. The navigation requirement makes re-display far less intrusive than before.
{% endupdate %}

{% update date="2026-04-23" tags="New Feature" %}

## Introducing Visitor Targeting for Popups

### Show the right popup to the right visitor, every time

Until now, every visitor saw the same popup regardless of whether they had already subscribed. That changes today. **Visitor targeting** lets you control exactly who sees each popup, based on whether Recart can identify them as a Klaviyo subscriber, a Recart SMS subscriber, or a brand new visitor.

### What you can do with it

* Show your welcome discount **only to new visitors**
* Show a loyalty or winback offer **only to existing subscribers**
* Run both popups at the same time, each visitor sees only the relevant one
* Exclude Klaviyo email subscribers, Klaviyo SMS subscribers, or Recart subscribers independently

### Main use cases

* **Parallel popups.** Run a discount popup for new visitors and a loyalty, upsell, or winback popup for known subscribers at the same time, with no overlap.
* **Stop showing popups to visitors who already subscribed.** Exclude existing subscribers entirely so they never see an acquisition offer again.

Visitor targeting works with any trigger type and is fully independent of Pages, Geotargeting, and A/B testing.

### Where to find it

Visitor targeting is configured at the **individual popup level**, under **Display rules** in the popup editor. It is disabled by default, so you turn it on per popup and uncheck the visitor groups you want to exclude.

![Visitor targeting toggle](https://791907572-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2Fg9BL9jmM4rBr3YI5Ck5J%2Fuploads%2Fjy0TA9imcqf9uOVVrzhN%2Fimg-visitor-targeting-1.png?alt=media)

Klaviyo targeting requires an active Klaviyo integration under Settings, Integrations.
{% endupdate %}

{% update date="2026-03-30" tags="New Feature" %}

## Discount Eligibility Options

![Discount Eligibility Options](https://791907572-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2Fg9BL9jmM4rBr3YI5Ck5J%2Fuploads%2FVGzwPfWfw9wh1cXLZhx8%2Fimg-discount-eligibility-options-1.png?alt=media)

Discount setup in Recart now gives you full control over who a code applies to. You can define customer eligibility directly in the discount builder, browse your existing Shopify customer segments, and keep every code in sync with Shopify.

### What's new

* Set customer eligibility when you create a discount: all customers or specific customer groups.
* Browse and select your Shopify customer segments as eligibility rules in the discount setup.
* Import existing Shopify discounts, including their eligibility settings, into Recart.
* Codes created in Recart sync automatically with Shopify, and edits made in Shopify sync back.

### Why it matters

* Target the right shoppers with the right offer without leaving Recart or rebuilding codes in Shopify.
* One source of truth for your discounts, kept consistent across both platforms.
  {% endupdate %}

## Introducing Popup Holdout A/B Testing

![Popup Holdout A/B Testing](https://791907572-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2Fg9BL9jmM4rBr3YI5Ck5J%2Fuploads%2F9wOIVtpgFWRf088ERZ7u%2Fimg-popup-holdout-ab-testing-1.png?alt=media)

### Prove the real impact of your popups

Ever wondered whether your popup is actually driving revenue, or whether visitors would have converted anyway? With Recart's popup holdout test, you can find out.

A holdout test is a type of A/B test where one variant is intentionally hidden from visitors. Instead of testing two different popup designs against each other, you are testing your popup against nothing at all. This gives you a clear, data-backed answer to one of the most common questions in conversion optimization: **is this popup making a difference?**

### How it works

Traffic is split between your live popup and an invisible holdout variant. Recart attributes revenue to both groups using Shopify session data, so at the end of the test you can directly compare revenue per visitor and conversion rate between the two groups. If your popup group outperforms the holdout, you have proof that your popup is driving incremental value. We recommend running the test for at least 2 to 4 weeks to reach reliable, statistically significant results.

### Getting started

Holdout tests are set up with support from the Recart team. To get started, reach out to your dedicated Customer Success Manager.

## Defense Package Export

![Defense Package Export](https://791907572-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2Fg9BL9jmM4rBr3YI5Ck5J%2Fuploads%2FbPR2vIzaHfJEeqayVhqt%2Fimg-defense-package-export-1.png?alt=media)

The Defense Package is a subscriber-level compliance export that produces a complete historical record for a given phone number. It was built to help merchants respond quickly to TCPA-related legal requests and subscriber complaints, automating what used to be a manual data-gathering process.

### What's new

* Export a single file with the full record for any subscriber phone number.
* Includes subscriber info, complete opt-in history with source and timestamps, the full inbound and outbound message log, and full timezone history.
* Message timestamps are shown in both UTC and the subscriber's local timezone, and timezone history documents which signal set the active timezone at any point in time.

### Why it matters

* Produce documented consent and messaging evidence in minutes when a demand letter or complaint arrives.
* The timezone history is especially useful for quiet hours cases, showing exactly which timezone was active when each message was sent.

## Introducing Shorter SMS Links

![Shorter SMS Links](https://791907572-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2Fg9BL9jmM4rBr3YI5Ck5J%2Fuploads%2FcsEAxdGUn5iwb26veZZJ%2Fimg-shorter-sms-links-1.png?alt=media)

### Save characters, reduce costs, automatically

We have made a behind-the-scenes improvement to how we generate shortened URLs in SMS messages. All branded short links now use a **7-character hash** instead of the previous 10-character format, saving you **3 characters per URL** in every message you send.

### Why this matters

Those 3 characters might not sound like much, but they add up quickly when you are sending thousands of messages:

* **Fewer SMS segments.** Some messages that would have needed 2 segments now fit into 1, cutting your cost in half for those sends.
* **More room for your message.** Extra space to add personality, urgency, or detail without bumping into the next segment.
* **Lower costs.** Fewer segments mean lower SMS costs, especially as carrier fees continue to rise.

For example, a message that was previously 162 characters (2 segments) might now be 159 characters (1 segment) thanks to the shorter URL.

### What you need to know

This feature is already live on your account, there is nothing to turn on or configure. Every SMS link you send from now on automatically uses the shorter format. One small note: if you open older campaigns in the editor, the segment count may look different than when you originally sent it. That is just a display quirk, your actual delivery data and reporting remain fully accurate.

## Introducing Automated List Cleaning

### A smarter, safer SMS list, automatically

Keeping an SMS list healthy is critical, but manually maintaining it is time-consuming and easy to miss. That is why Recart now runs **Automated List Cleaning** in the background for every merchant. It automatically removes unreachable, deactivated, or high-risk phone numbers from your SMS list, helping improve deliverability, reduce wasted SMS costs, and lower compliance risk.

### What gets cleaned automatically

* Deactivated or disconnected phone numbers
* Known TCPA litigators
* Landlines
* Reassigned numbers (where legally required)

### What you will see in your account

* A new **List Cleaning** chart on the Subscribers page
* A **Cleaned by Recart** count
* An **Estimated SMS cost saved** metric
* Clear removal reasons logged in subscriber profiles

There is nothing to enable. The feature runs automatically and works quietly in the background to protect your account.

## Introducing Popup Preview: Test Your Popups Before They Go Live

Launching a popup should not involve guesswork. With **Popup Preview**, you can now review exactly how your popup will appear to visitors **before it is published**, directly on your live website, without triggering real users or affecting analytics.

![Popup Preview](https://791907572-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2Fg9BL9jmM4rBr3YI5Ck5J%2Fuploads%2FgKlvnlcDmYC6Dronlwae%2Fimg-popup-preview-1.png?alt=media)

**Popup Preview makes it easy to validate:**

* Layout, copy, images, and CTAs
* Multi-step flows, including email and phone collection
* Verification and success steps

**All previews run in a safe testing mode, which means:**

* No impressions or conversions are recorded
* Trigger logic is ignored (exit intent, scroll, timing, frequency)
* Draft and inactive popups can be previewed at any time

This helps you catch issues early, reduce last-minute changes, and launch campaigns with confidence, especially for promotions, seasonal campaigns, or compliance-sensitive updates.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://help.recart.com/whats-new/2026-product-updates.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
