Important Messenger Policy Changes

This guide will help you ensure that your Recart messages are compliant with Facebook Messaging policies effective from March 4th, 2020.

What exactly is changing

  • The rule most commonly known as "24+1 hour rule" will become 24-hour rule

  • The 17 previously available message tags will be reduced to 4 tags

  • Subscription messaging will only be available to registered, approved news outlets

The 24+1 standard messaging window

Before March 4, 2020
Previously, you could send promotional or non-promotional messages to your Messenger subscribers within 24 hours of their last response to your page. Once the window closed, you could send one additional message, outside of the 24-hour window. 


After March 4, 2020
From the last interaction, your business will have 24 hours to message your subscribers, but you can no longer send one additional message after the 24-hour window.

Message tags

Before March 4, 2020
There were 17 tags available for different use cases where a business is allowed to message users outside the 24-hour window.


After March 4, 2020
There are 4 different tags that you can use to message users outside of the 24-hour window. Messages sent outside of the 24-hour messaging window must have one of the following tags: Confirmed Event Update, Post-Purchase Update, Account Update, or Human Agent. Messages that don't have a Message Tag will not deliver outside the 24-hour messaging window. 


Subscription messaging


Before March 4, 2020
Businesses could send regular updates to users via Messenger outside of the standard 24-hour messaging window.


After March 4, 2020
Only registered news publishers can send subscription messages.


What does this mean for your Recart account?

  1. You'll still be able to send promotional content within the 24-hour messaging window.

This includes welcome messages, abandoned cart messages, review requests, etc.

If you wish to send promotional content outside of the 24-hour period, you need to use Sponsored Messages.

Create your Sponsored Messages and connect them to your Recart conversation flows. 

You can build your conversation flow from scratch or use our template library, where you can find pre-built templates. 🚀

  2.Changes regarding abandoned cart messages

Previously, the default timing of the abandoned cart messages were:

  • 1 hour

  • 23 hour

  • 48 hour

After March 4th, 2020, the default schedule is changed so your abandoned cart messages will be compliant with the messaging policies. The default schedule is:

  • 1 hour

  • 8 hours

  • 23 hours
